RoSPA Awards : Which Award?

RoSPA : Occupational Health & Safety Awards

Achievement Awards
Find out about the 2009 AwardsThese awards are non-competitive and are based on the entrant’s individual Occupational Health and Safety performance assessed against the judging criteria.

Awards are made at Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit level, progressing to higher awards for sustained achievement: the Gold Medal (at least 5 consecutive Gold Awards), President’s Award (at least 10 consecutive Gold Awards) and the Order of Distinction (at least 15 consecutive Gold Awards).

Entrants for an Achievement Award must provide evidence of a good health and safety management system by answering the Key Performance Questions and supporting the answers with a concise portfolio of relevant documents.

Winners of Achievement Awards receive a framed certificate and are entitled to use the award logo on their organisation’s letterhead and to fly the RoSPA Awards flag.

Industry Sector Awards
(Occupational Health and Safety only)
The competitive Sector Awards recognise the organisations that have demonstrated the best health and safety management performance within specific industry sectors. As well as one winner of the prestigious Sector Award, one or more entrants may be Highly Commended or Commended within the Sector. All other Sector Award entries are automatically re-assessed for an Achievement Award.

Entrants must demonstrate a consistently excellent or continuously improving performance, with exceptional standards of health and safety management.

Each Sector Award winner receives an engraved trophy to be held permanently.


The Sir George Earle Trophy
The Sire George Earle TrophyThe UK’s premier performance award for occupational health and safety.

This trophy was donated to RoSPA in 1956 by Sir George Earle, then President of the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd to promote and celebrate outstanding contributions to health and safety at work.

The award is presented annually to the best Sector Award winning organisation, following a site visit and an interview with the awards adjudication panel.


The RoSPA International Dilmun Environmental AwardSpecialist Awards
Entries for the following Specialist Awards must be accompanied by an Achievement or Industry Sector Award application, with separate submissions for each award applied for.

The RoSPA International Dilmun Environmental Award
This award, sponsored by the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company of Bahrain will be presented to the organisation whose entry shows the highest standard of environmental management. Find out more...

● A commemorative plaque to retain permanently
● Entitlement to use the award logo on corporate stationery and the website.

The RoSPA Training Trophy
Is presented to the UK-based entrant showing the best organised health and safety training programme.

The Award comprises:
● The RoSPA Training Trophy to be held for one year
● A commemorative plaque to retain permanently
● Entitlement to use the award logo on corporate stationery and the website.

The RoSPA Occupational Health Award (The Astor Trophy)
Is presented to the UK-based entrant demonstrating the best management of occupational health.

The Award comprises:
● The Astor Trophy to be held for one year
● A commemorative plaque to retain permanently
● Entitlement to use the award logo on corporate stationery and the website.

MORR™ Awards
MORR™ AwardsRoSPA has been at the forefront of the campaign for occupational road risk to be managed in the same way as other work related risks. RoSPA MORR™ Awards reward excellence and encourage improvement in this key operational area. Entrants must supply an additional submission to their entry for an Occupational Health and Safety Achievement Award or an Industry Sector Award, unless direct entry is agreed with RoSPA.

Entries are judged on a combination of the verifiable historical performance data provided along with evidence of an effective and cohesive programme for managing road risk. Find out more...

The RoSPA MORR™ Trophy
This Award is presented to the company or organisation that has most effectively managed its occupational road risks over the past 12 months. All MORR™ Award entries are automatically considered for the trophy.

The Award comprises:
● An engraved trophy to be held permanently
● Entitlement to use the award emblem on corporate stationery.


All eligible entries will be automatically considered for the following Specialist Awards with no additional submission required.

NEW!The Best New Entry Award
This new award recognises the hard work involved in compiling a comprehensive awards submission. It will be presented to the best entry from an organisation participating for the first time. Submissions from organisations that have entered previously under a different name or from sites related to organisations which have previously entered will not be eligible.

This new award, sponsored by Springfields Fuels Ltd, will be presented to the RoSPA Industry Sector Award entrant demonstrating the best performance in this key area including:

  • employee involvement at operational level
  • H&S workforce representation
  • involvement of representatives in H&S management processes
  • joint consultation

The RoSPA Scotland Trophy
This trophy is presented annually to recognise the highest standard of health and safety management and performance by an organisation based in or operating in Scotland.

The Award comprises:
● The RoSPA Scotland Trophy to be held for one year
● A commemorative plaque to retain permanently
● Entitlement to use the award logo on stationery and the website.
