24/7 Safety – Safety Never Stops |
RoSPA research shows that 10-20% of workplace absenteeism is as a result of injuries sustained outside the workplace. For employers seeking to help staff reduce these injuries, RoSPA can help design and deliver programmes to tackle the issue on three fronts:
- Adapting and extending Occupational Health and Safety (H&S) information and training programmes, delivered to encourage employees to apply safety and skills outside the workplace. For example in the home (DIY, gardening, cooking, fireworks), while driving and in leisure pursuits (weekend motorcycling, extreme sports, moving house).
- Inviting community based safety programmes into the workplace to deliver their safety messages directly to employees. In areas such as road, home, fire safety etc.
- Encouraging organisations to become safety champions in their own communities and supply chains as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
|
RoSPA Consultants can undertake assessments to gauge the scope for reducing injuries in this way, focusing on the business case. We can also offer a wide range of inputs to help deliver 24/7 safety programmes via the workplace, following an evidence-based approach. Contact rbenjamin@rospa.com for more information.

Countdown to UN Global Road Safety Week |

Global statistics for deaths from road traffic accidents make frightening reading:
- Each year road traffic crashes kill nearly 1.2 million people,
and injure or disable 20-50 million people
- Globally more than 40% of all road traffic deaths occur among
the 0-25 age group
- Road traffic injuries are the second leading cause of death for
young people aged 5-25 years.
|
To address this challenge RoSPA are driving forward the UN Global Road Safety Week in Scotland. RoSPA would like you to support Global Road Safety Week by undertaking road safety activity between the 23rd and 29th April.
