RoSPA Celebrates Excellence in Health and Safety |
 Over 3,000 people congregated to celebrate health and safety excellence at the annual 2007 RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards. The industry flagship awards ran over three days and nights, culminating in three gala dinners, with special entertainment provided by comedian, Jimmy Carr.
RoSPA would like to congratulate all the award winners for their outstanding contribution in raising the standards in health and safety excellence and would like to encourage others to follow their leading example.

Staff Mental Illness Increasing |
According to a study by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, depression and stress together make up the second largest cause of workers taking time off sick. On averag  e staff with depression were off work for 30 days annually and those with stress 21 days.
All organisations have a legal obligation to take action on this important issue.
RoSPA’S Managing Stress and Violence Training course empowers managers to tackle the root causes of stress proactively.

July 1st Smoking Ban – A Sign of the Times |
From the 1st July 2007 virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces will be required to be smoke free at all times. Employers, managers and those in charge of smoke free premises and vehicles will need to:
- Take reasonable steps to ensure that staff, customers/
members and visitors are aware that premises and vehicles are
legally required to be smoke free
- Remove any existing indoor smoking rooms
- Ensure that no one smokes in smoke free premises or vehicles
- Display “no-smoking” signs in smoke free premises and
vehicles.
