Watersports are a popular pastime for the 65 million trips abroad each year taken by UK travellers. It is worth checking that watersports operators have good safety procedures such as:
Good storage and maintenance of equipment.
Provision of life-jackets and other safety equipment.
Clearly defined areas for different water sports/users.
Collection of personal and medical details by operators.
Jet ski operators should ask for ID, proof of age, and ideally, training.
Enough staff to provide look-out and rescue services.
Running in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Norwich and Manchester this flagship IOSH course, available from RoSPA, is aimed at all managers and supervisors, in all businesses who need to practically manage health and safety issues in the workplace.
Covering key legal requirements, risk assessment, accident prevention, health and safety management systems, hazard identification and much more...

New course: IOSH Work Placement training
RoSPA is launching a new course especially designed to help those who arrange, monitor or administer work experience placements.
So if you are in the Education sector, a Training and Enterprise Council, Education Business Partnerships this could be relevant to you and your colleagues.
Did you know, for example, that if a student on work placement experience has an accident then both the employer and the organisation who placed them are liable?
Young workers are particularly prone to accidents in the workplace and help is on hand from RoSPA.
Successful delegates who pass the practical and written assessments will be awarded a certificate from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). On the course you will gain sufficient knowledge to be able to assess a work place to determine its suitability as a work experience placement in terms of health and safety. The two-day course includes relevant legislation, and how to communicate effectively with employers, so you can be reasonably satisfied that those employers will fulfil their health and safety responsibilities to those on work experience placements.
To book or to request further details email OSH@RoSPA.com
Courses also available to run inside your own organisation.
Fundraising success
We were delighted at the success of the Charity Prize Draws which raised £13,662 at the recent RoSPA Awards Gala Dinners May 22nd to 24th. At each dinner, three lucky guests won first, second and third prizes respectively of £1,000 worth of holiday vouchers, a high specification laptop PC and a VIP day at Silverstone Le Mans series (together with additional RoSPA Driver Training)
RoSPA would like to thank all participants for their support for the prize draw, the proceeds of which go to RoSPA’s campaigns, a key one of which for the coming year is to reduce the tragic annual toll of 600 people who unnecessarily suffer horrific scald injuries. This campaign is for the simple yet effective measure of fitting new-build housing with thermostatic mixing valves.
Special thanks go to Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co for their generous £3,000 donation to this vital campaign, which was presented to RoSPA by Mr Abdulrahman Jawahery, GPIC General Manager.
