Risky Business . . . helping you to assess road risk online

The human, legal and economic consequences of the failure to manage occupational road risk make it an obligation not an option. More people are killed in ‘at work’ road accidents than in all other occupational accidents put together.

RoSPA’s Award winning Driver Profiler

As part of RoSPA’s Management of Occupational Road Risk ServiceDriver Profiler (MORR™) we offer the award winning Driver Profiler, an on-line psychometric risk assessment tool.

Priced at only £10 per assessment until the end of March, Driver Profiler enables employers to risk-assess their workforce cost-effectively at any computer which is connected to the Internet.

For three free Driver Profiler trials and for more information please call our team on 0121 248 2084 or email fleetsolutions@rospa.com

Managing Workplace Transport: Key Risk Issues

Managing Workplace Transport Whether quiet or busy - depots, warehouses, car parks and onsite traffic systems present a wide range of problems to companies both small and large. The statistics drive this fact home, with workplace transport being the second largest cause of accidents in the workplace. Safe management of a busy site can literally be a matter of life and death, with approximately 2,000 serious injuries and 70 fatalities occurring each year.

At RoSPA’s Managing Workplace Transport Risks Conference on the 14th May in Birmingham, the Freight Transport Association will put four key risk issues under the spotlight, with which a large proportion of preventable injuries are associated:

Daily activities such as:

  • Manoeuvring and reversing vehicles
  • Safe working with lift trucks

Management/design issues such as:

  • Vehicle and pedestrian control
  • Site layout and design of traffic area

Not to be missed by:

  • H&S Professionals Managing Workplace Transport
  • Transport Managers
  • Fleet Managers
  • Architects and Engineers
  • Road Safety Managers
  • Highway Engineers
  • Safety Representatives
  • CEOs
  • HR Managers
  • Insurance

If you're quick, you will also catch the 20% early-bird discount rate which ends this week - Friday 14 March 2008. With 100 delegates already registered, this event will provide excellent networking opportunities for all attending.

For a full event programme or to secure your place now by booking on line, please visit www.rospa.com/events or call the booking hotline on 0121 248 2120.

Call for papers – National Home Safety Congress

Running under the theme “Regulating for Home Safety”, this year’s Congress, taking place in Blackpool, will look at important questions such as:

  • can regulation provide a solution and lead to a reduction in home injury, or are people becoming reliant on the safety equipment now available for home use?
  • should the home environment be as safe as is necessary rather than as safe as is possible?

National Home Safety CongressThe congress will explore the range of solutions aimed at achieving the right balance between complacency and paranoia.

If you are a safety practitioner and/or have a professional interest in safe domestic products and services, and would like to share your ideas and successes with others by making a presentation at RoSPA’s National Home Safety Congress, let us know as soon as possible.

For details on how to submit an abstract for consideration on this year’s programme, please visit www.rospa.com/home.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 16 May 2008.

Your views on new injury surveillance system

In 2002 the former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) ceased to collect injury data for its Home Accident Surveillance System (HASS) and Leisure Accident Surveillance System (LASS). Since this time the database has been accessible through RoSPA’s website. However, it is now out of date especially in terms of emerging injury trends.

RoSPA in partnership with Electrical Safety Council and Intertek RAM have commissioned a study to assess the feasibility of setting up a new injury surveillance system in the UK. This would facilitate the prevention of accidental injury through providing data for research, policy development, injury prevention programmes, risk assessment, and product development.

We would welcome your views on what should potentially be included within a new injury surveillance system. Please tell us what information you would find most useful and how you might use it. Many thanks in advance for completing the short questionnaire below.
